The airway is the most convenient way of travelling to uttarakhand as you can reach the place in a matter of hours. Uttarakhand is a small state, therefore, there are not many airports in the state. Barring the capital of the state, Dehradun, only three other towns have airports in it. Travelling is not an easy task and since there are places in Uttarakhand which are generally covered in snow, you will need warm clothes. Hence, you should pack your luggage smartly where you carry all your essentials without crossing the weight limit. Since there are only four airports in Uttarakhand, you will not be able to explore the state just by boarding any of the Uttarakhand flights. In order to properly explore Uttarakhand, you will have to take a bus or a train after you get down at any of the four airports located in the state. Major flights: IndiGo Airlines, Spice Jet, Jet Airways, Air India and Alliance Air which flow from and to Dehradun on a regular basis. Major Airports: The important airports in Uttarakhand are the Bharkot Airport in Chinyalisour, Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, Pantnagar Airport in Pantnagar and Naini Saini Airport in Pithoragarh.

Railway might not be the easiest way to reach Uttarakhand but surely is one of the better ways to do so. Just like airports, there are not many railway stations as well in the state which makes it very difficult traverse within the state. Some of the important railway stations of Uttarakhand are Dehradun Railway Station, Haldwani Railway Station, Haridwar Railway Station, Roorkee Railway Station and Rishikesh Railway Station. Train journey to Uttarakhand is not an easy task. If you are located in the North Eastern region of India, then you will take approximately 2:3 days to reach Uttarakhand. If you are located in the southern region of India, then also you will take a minimum of 2 days to reach Uttarakhand. Travelling to Uttarakhand is an easy task for people residing in the northern part of India. They can reach the place in less than 24 hours. For the people of Delhi, Uttarakhand is a weekend getaway place as it only takes 4 hours to reach. Train journeys often take a lot of time but that is the speciality of it. The long journey becomes very exciting and entertaining if you are travelling with a good group of people. Most of the trains travelling to Uttrakhand provide meals as the train journey is quite long. The food is of good quality and has a lot of variety to choose from. If you are picky eater you should carry your own food or ensure that you are getting something you would like. Since the Indian trains are used a lot on daily basis the toilets are not completely equipped so it is advised that you travel along with some basic toiletries like toilet paper, paper soap and the like. Generally, the train provides a blanket, pillow and a bed sheet but if you are not comfortable using their pillows then you should definitely carry an air pillow that you can use to add on to the comfort element while travelling in a train.
Uttarakhand does not have many airports and railways stations in it, therefore, commuting within the state is a tedious task, in order to overcome the tediousness helicopter rides had been introduced in the state. Several cities in Uttarakhand can be reached by taking a helicopter ride, such as Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, etc. Helicopter rides are a blessing for the pilgrims who visit the pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand as they do not have to walk several kilometres to reach their site. They can simply take a helicopter ride to their destination and travel hassle:free. Helicopter rides are extremely fun, it is not like the normal plane rides which one has. You actually get to see the whole town and every detail of it from the top angle. It is like being in a movie.
Buses are the best way by which you can travel in Uttarakhand. Since the majority of the crowd that visit Uttarakhand are pilgrims, buses are a very famous mode of transport and it is even cheap. Although it is a bit dangerous as the roads are crooked and not very safe in some places, overall the buses are very easy to find and cheap too. Almost all the town in Uttarakhand have a bus stop. Since all the towns do not have a railway station or an airport, buses are the main mode of transportation for tourists to reach their destinations here. Bus journey can be tiring as you have to sit at one place for long hours. But at the same time, it can be a lot of fun if you are travelling with your friends. You get to enjoy the scenic beauty of the place while travelling on the bus. If you are a nature lover then taking the bus in the morning time is a great idea as nature is at its best at that time. The lush greenery amidst the mountains with the sun shining is an amazing panoramic view that is a must-see for nature lovers like you.
The car is generally not the first option of tourists to visit the state in because the roads in Uttarakhand are not very safe. Almost all the road in Uttarakhand have a mountain on one side and a steep slope hundreds of feet tall on the other side. Therefore one needs to be a very good driver to be able to drive on such roads. Road trips are exciting here, as you get to observe and witness nature at its best here. You get to view the snow:capped mountains, a stream of water flowing beside it and lush green lands everywhere. In a road trip, you often visit places which might not have been present on your travel list. Therefore, excursions like these allow you to wander freely at a place and explore it in its true sense. You tend to get lost in the beauty of Uttarakhand while on a road trip. Road trips also allow you to interact with the locals of the place, thereby learning a lot about the local culture and traditions of Uttarakhand.
You can hire a car or a driver too with your car if you want to visit Uttarakhand in utmost comfort. However, this can be an expensive choice of transport. A cheaper alternative would be to travel around through local bus services or state buses. You can also travel within a city in Uttarakhand on foot or via local cabs, or motorbikes.
