Places to visit in Nairobi

Bomas of Kenya is a tourist village based at the centre at Langata. Here the talented resident performs a 1.5 hours song and dance show showcasing the costumes and dances of at least 15 different tribes of Kenya. All communities of Kenya can be witnessed here and it is an ideal place for any traveller who wants to explore the cultural side of Nairobi.

This is one of the best monuments in entire Kenya, located just next to the Nairobi Law Court. It is a statue of the first president of Kenya.

There are many famous landmarks in Nairobi some of which are African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (Kenya) Ltd. - Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Nairobi Gallery and African Heritage House.

History is difficult to erase and it affects every individual in a unique way. The presence of a memorial wall, sculptures and pictures makes it a very touching. It is a quiet place in the middle of the city. This is a place worth visiting.

Also famous as the “Nairobi’s people’s Park”, Uhuru Park is situated in the middle of Nairobi, just within the walking perimeter of the City Centre. It is in fact a place to relax amidst the busy life of the city. It lets you recharge yourself and get geared up for the next day.

Rift Valley is one of the wonders of the world, stretching from the middle-east, down through Africa, reaching as far as Mozambique. The amazing view while approaching Nairobi is really breath taking. Rift valley is enriched with its Savanna, geology and fauna. With a huge variety of landscapes, activities, accommodation and wild life Rift Valley is an excellent part of any safari holiday.

This museum is located near the Nairobi railway station. It was opened in the year 1971 by East African Railways. It consists of the Main Gallery, the auditorium, the Resource Center, an outdoor collection of locomotives, coaches and wagons. It remains open every day between 8am and 5pm.

It is located about 10km outside Nairobi, at the base of the Ngong Hills.  This was initially a farm house which gained international fame with the release of the Oscar winning movie ‘Out of Africa’.

A tour of this museum helps you in understanding the culture of the city. The museum is open to public every day from 9.30 am to 6pm, including weekends and public holidays.

The Nairobi National Museum was founded in 1920, and established at its present location in 1929. Visitors coming here can get a picture of the history of Nairobi, about the culture the artefacts and how people lived in the old historical days. In the past few days, the museum was undergoing renovation and was re-opened in the year 2008. The enormous stuffed bird collection is a prime attraction of the museum.

There are several religious organizations in Nairobi, Kenya, which you can explore. Few of them are PCEA Nairobi West Church School, New Testament Church of God, Brethren Fellowship Ministries and Kids Centre.

This is the second best statue in Kenya and a proud symbol of Kenyan resistance. It is located at the junction of Kimathi Street and Mama Ngina Street.
