This beautiful temple is one of the most famous tourist spots in Anjarle. Few people know that the temple was originally built with wooden pillars sometime back in 1150. Since the 1700s, it has been remodeled many times. Earlier, boats had to be used to cross the river and reach the temple. The recent construction of a bridge connecting the Anjarle creek and a road that leads to the temple has enabled pilgrims to travel easily to the temple.
The mail deity in the famous temple differs from most other idols, since normally the Hindu deity, Ganesha is depicted with his trunk curling to the usual left. Amusingly, the idol in this temple shows the trunk curling towards the right. He is called the 'UjweyaSondecha Ganpati'. Legend has it that the deity is actually a live one, and listens to the prayers of his worshippers. The staircase present leads tourists to the top of the temple, where one can take in the breathtaking view of the Arabian Sea, the coconut trees, and even the Suvarnadurga Fort. Also, tourists are allowed to feed the large fishes and turtles present in the pond right in front of the temple. Tourists coming to Anjarle must visit this enchanting temple, to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the place.
