Best time to visit Sonmarg

Best Time to Visit in Sonmarg

April to June

During this time, the weather is pleasant and breathtaking views of nature are available everywhere you look. During these months the valley is covered with a profusion of flowers of all colours and fragrances. The average temperature during the day is between 21°Cand 29°C.

July and August

Although the weather is welcoming during the monsoons with average temperature of about 30°C, tourists, except pilgrims, avoid Sonmarg at this time. This is mainly because of the rains and the heavy pilgrim traffic to Amarnath. The terrain also becomes slightly slippery and difficult to negotiate.

September and October

The weather is pleasant during these months with average temperatures of 23-28°C. While this is a good time to visit Sonmarg, the splendour of Sonmarg’s natural beauty is not at its peak.

November to March

These months are cold and the average temperature during the day is 8-16°C. The nights are hostile with sub-zero temperatures. Most of the land is covered under a blanket of snow and the water bodies are frozen. Unless you have high tolerance for extremely cold weather, it is unadvisable to go to Sonmarg during the winter months.
