Sonamarg actually means, “Meadow of Gold.” This small mountain town set in a scenic position is the starting point for a range of hikes and adventures into the surrounding peaks, glaciers, and streams. There are many guides available in an around Sonamarg who will take you to show the area, or you can even hire a pony for the trip up the glaciers. As the snowfall gets heavier during winter, this village remains uninhabited and inaccessible. It is one of the best places to visit in Kashmir. The place is located at a height of about 2800 meters. from MSL.
