How to Reach Gold Coast By Rail

You can travel to Gold Coast from other cities in Australia by taking the train. There is an electric train service between Brisbane and Gold Coast called CityTrain while the Countrylink which originates in New South Wales runs from Sydney and has bus services to Surfers Paradise. How to Reach Gold Coast By Road/Bus

Gold Coast can be approached by road where you can either hire a car or get on a bus. If you plan to take a bus or a coach, then there are several services that pass through Gold Coast and there are bus stations at Surfers Paradise, Southport and Coolangatta. The nearest city is Brisbane and many people are known to fly down to Brisbane and then reach Gold Coast by bus as it is just 1 ½ hours away. However, the distance goes up considerably for other cities such as Sydney as it takes approximately 14 hours to reach Gold Coast from Sydney. 

Since the highways are excellent and roads are also in good condition, you can hire a car and drive down to Gold Coast on your own. If you are planning to go road-tripping in Australia, do remember that it is a huge country and that distance between cities is quite big. Please make sure you’re insured before heading out on a road trip. Also, a four wheel drive is considered the best choice for travelling by road and do remember to carry essentials like water and snacks before going on a road trip.

How to reach Gold Coast by Flight

Gold Coast Airport is smaller than the other popular airports in Australia but is connected to all the cities in the country. Also known as Coolangatta Airport, it is a domestic and international airport that connects to some cities in Asia too, as well as cities in New Zealand. However, there are no direct flights to Gold Coast from India. There are at least one or two stopovers and the city depends on which airlines you have chosen. Air India does operate direct flights to Sydney and from here, you can take a connecting flight to Gold Coast. 

There are several airlines that serve the Gold Coast airport, and this includes Qantas, Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia to name a few. Do note that the Gold Coast Airport is not open 24 hours, so you have to make sure of the timings that it stays open before you travel, especially if you are planning to reach there the night before for an early morning flight. The airport is 100 kms south of Brisbane and around 25 km south of Surfers Paradise. It is located in the southern end of the Gold Coast. Another important thing to remember is that Gold Coast experiences thunderstorms and heavy rains during summers. So, be prepared for delays or even flight cancellations. 

There is another unique thing about this airport. It lies between both Queensland and New South Wales borders, which means that you could land in one state and leave in another. Despite being a small airport, it receives 3.5 million visitors every year. There is a Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle which connects to hotels and theme parks everywhere in the Gold Coast.
