The Holocaust Museum that exhibits age-old artifacts, the Salvador Dali Museum which stores the masterpieces of eminent painter Salvador Dali, the Museum of Fine Arts that exhibits a collection from the eras before to the current day and a few more are the famous museums of St. Petersburg.
St. Petersburg had the famous Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum between 1963 -1989.
The Great Exploration, the famous and one of the finest museum for children, located 1952, 4th Street North is a must visit for children. Established in 1986, it is a preschool along with being a program centre. The architecture of this building is similar to the P. Buckley Moss Museum and the Salvador Dali Museum. The Great Exploration Museum is a hand on one which exhibits a Tyrannosaurus Rex made up of recycled scrap materials in its parking lot. It also has a 27m long ‘Touch Tunnel’ so that the children can explore the museum on by using touch as a tool of navigation.
The museum has a ‘Fit4 All Kids Ville’ to teach the basics of health, hygiene and nutrition, a tree house where children can play the various roles of making one called ‘I Can Construct’; a veterinary clinic to teach children to care about animals and a lot more. They also conduct summer camps, workshops birthday parties and scouts and hence it is a favorite place of the kids.
It is mostly the sea and the sand that has its own charm but St. Petersburg has greenery too that suits its climatic conditions. The palm trees, various kinds of flowers, a variety of shrubs, bushes and trees make St. Petersburg a mix of yellow and green that contours the eye for good.
The First Methodist Church of St. Petersburg, also called the First United Methodist Church of St. Petersburg, is a religious place of high importance and has architecture of historical significance.
Other than the Church, every cluster of inhabitants from other religions have their own religious places.
Many famous movies like that of Once Upon a Time in America (1984), Cocoon (1985), Summer Rental (1985), Ocean’s 11 (2001), Spring Breakers (2011) etc have been shot in St. Petersburg.
The IIFA Awards was recently conducted in the Tampa Bay.
During the springtime, St. Petersburg organises the ‘World’s Fastest Spring Break Party’ or the “Firestone Grand Prix’, famous car racing competition.
Baseball is a popular sport here and has various great teams. During winters, it is football that takes all over St. Petersburg. This city is a favorite spot for athletes too. Marathons are organised for both men and women and so is the Triathlon. Skating too is popular here.
From jeans to sweaters, from dresses to perfumes, from chocolates to organic spices, from cosmetics to gadgets- St. Petersburg is a shopping hub for the tourists.
The most famous is the Mazarro’s Italian Market. Other than that, the Grand Central District is famous for antiques and chirpy goods. The Dunedin has fashion items, arty decors to toys for sale. There are varieties of big and small stores in the Downtown to explore.
Variety, umpteen is what can describe the cuisine available in St. Petersburg. The famous of course are the American meals, especially the breakfast. However, the French, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Greek, European, British, Vietnamese and Spanish cuisines are famous too.
Food joints like the Trip’s Diner, Italia MIA Restaurant, the Britannia Arms, the Red Mesa, the Gateway to India, the Old Farmer’s Creamery, the Park shore Grill, the 400 Beach Seafood and Tap House, the Red Mesa Cantina, the La V, the Burg Bar and Grill, the Horse and Jockey British Club and so on and so fore- St. Petersburg has eateries serving almost all the cuisines.
There are luxurious and comfortable hotels on the beach and in the heart of the city, suiting all kinds of budgets. The most stayed ones are the Hampton Inn and Suites St. Petersburg Downtown, the Hilton Saint St. Petersburg Carillon Park, the Magnuson Hotel Marina Cove, the Stay bridge Suits St. Petersburg FL etc.
The nightlife of St. Petersburg can only be described by adjectives like ‘happening’, ‘rocking’, ‘cool’ and ‘total fun.’ The city perhaps never sleeps. Singing and dancing the night away, sipping into the umpteen kinds of drinks of varied kinds, a serene musical evening on the beach or a rocking party beside the sea- St. Petersburg is known for being one of the best cities that has an enviable nightlife.
Places like Mandarin Hide, the Flamenco Bar, Clearwater Wine Bar and Bistro, The Undertow, the Swigwam Beach Bar, etc are famous for the exotic nightlife that they provide.
So far entertainment is concerned, movies, live musical programs, theatre shows at the State Theatre, operas, art exhibitions in the museums like the Museum of Fine Arts; the options are unending.
