Fort Jesus In Kenya

Built by the Portuguese, was meant to safeguard them during the war. Soldiers used the fort as a barrack and later it was converted to a prison. It is in Mombasa island.  It is an important tourist destination as a historical site for the East African region and included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
