The magical Khajjiar Lake is situated in Khajjiar, in the district of Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. The lake is located at a height of 1920 metres above sea level and witnesses a lot of tourists. The temple was made in the 12th century and specifically dedicated to Khajji Nag or the Lord of Serpents. It is the most venerated temple in Himachal Pradesh and since it is associated with the Khajjiar Lake, the lake is also revered greatly. The temple is made simple and is a blend of both, Hindu and Muslim architecture. It is made out of wood and has statues of Lord Shiva and Goddess Hidimba. Interestingly, the interiors of the temple have images of the Pandavas defeating the Kauravas in the battle of Mahabharata.

By air: Gaggal is the nearest airport to Khajjiar and is located at a distance of 134 kms. One can easily avail public transport or a cab to Khajjiar from here. It is also known as the Kangra airport and connects various cities of India. If one is travelling from abroad, then you land in Delhi, Amritsar or Chandigarh airport. These airports have great connectivity within and outside the country. 

By rail: If one is planning to travel by rail, then Pathankot railway station is the nearest railway station from Khajjiar. It is located at a distance of 142 kms and is connected to a number of major cities in the country. One can opt for a bus or a private cab from the station to Khajjiar. 

By road: Himachal road transportation services offer affordable bus services to neighbouring cities that are well connected to Khajjiar. There are numerous luxurious or standard buses available from Chamba, Dalhousie, Simla etc. 

Best time to visit in Khajjiar Lake

The best time to visit Khajjiar is during the summer season, between the months of May and October. The weather at that time is very pleasant and comfortable, ranging from 12-24 degrees. Summers here have pleasant nights while it gets very cold during the winter season. Having said that, winter is the best time for snow lovers as snowfall occurs here each year.
