Dating back to 1884, the museum is one of the oldest in the state, built to commemorate the wedding of MaharaoKhengarji III. The collections displayed include rare pieces of royal paintings, musical instruments and coins from the 19th century. It is also famed to have the largest collection of Kshatrapa inscriptions dating back to the 1st century AD. The museum displays also include rare Kutch script inscriptions which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The Kutch Museum is also the first museum in the country to go online in 2010.
