Places to visit in Munnar

CSI Christ Church is about 100 years old. It is typically an English church built of stone. The stained glass windows inside the church are beautiful. Mount Carmel Church is a Catholic church that is located at the Munnar Market area. It had been built on a mountaintop. So, to visit it, tourists have to climb up all the way. Shree Murugan Temple (dedicated to Lord Shiva’s son, known as Lord Subrahmanya) is a famous religious place to visit in Munnar. Temple of Sree Ayyapa is in Anachal, which is about 15 km away from Munnar.

Kids will enjoy the Elephant Arrival Spot in Munnar. Entry is free and the entire family may love to take a ride on elephant back, as the keeper of the animal or ‘mahout’ will take tourists around. Adults, as well as children, love these rides.

There are quite a few landmark tourist attractions in Munnar, Kerala, that tourists may not want to miss during their visit. The highest point of Munnar is one such place, known as the Top Station. Generally, it can be seen on the way while driving to Munnar from Cochin. Anamudi Peak is the highest peak of this region. It is very scenic but mostly remains foggy. To see this peak, tourists have to visit Eravikulam National Park.

Blossom International Park (situated only 3 km away from the town of Munnar) is spread over more than 16 acres of land. It is home to different varieties of trees and flowering plants. Rose Gardens is located on the Kochi-Madurai Highway. It is a 2-acres land of not only blooming roses and other flowers, but it also has a fruit orchard and plantations like Cardamom, Tea and Vanilla. The Eravikulam or Rajmalai National Park is a wonderful place full of different varieties of flora and fauna. A rare species of Nilgiri Tahr are found in this park. The Anamudi peak (South India’s highest mountain peak) is situated in this national park. Above all, the sprawling green tea gardens of Munnar are not to be missed

By visiting Kannan Devan Tea Museum one can know about the tea making process and also find out about the machinery being used in the earlier times. It also houses a small shop that is worth visiting. The Kollengode Palace, which was initially built as a residential home for Raja Vasudeva’s daughter, was turned into a museum in 1975. The Department of Archaeology looks after this museum of Munnar. Most of the exhibits in the museum consist of different belongings from the King along with manuscripts, sculptures and murals. Many of the artifacts now displayed at this palace-museum had been found in Thrissur forest areas as well as in different parts of the state. Kannan Devan Hills Plantations Tea Museum displays an antique collection of artifacts. Visitors will also get to know about the tea estate from audio-visual shows arranged in this museum. This museum is a great place to find out about a very old industry (tea processing) of this part of the Indian state.

Raja Vasudeva built Kollengode Palace in 1904 and gifted it to his daughter. It was built using both European and Kerala style of architecture. The statue at Ramakalmedu is also a sightseeing tourist attraction in Munnar.
