Places to visit in Ranthambhore

This beautiful red palace is situated on the banks of Padam Lake and it was used as rest house in the old days. The palace has beautiful views and is located at one of the most scenic places inside the National Park. An old Banyan tree near the Jogi Mahal is considered to be one of the oldest in the country.

You can go for nature walks and trails, explore some of the area in the national park on foot and have picnics near the lakes.

Several landmarks like Naulakha Gate, Sawai Madhopur District Court, Khem Villas and Railway station, present in the city of Sawai Madhopur, which is about 10 kilometres from Ranthambhore. However the most famous landmark is Ranthombhore National Park.

Most of the popular Hindu festivals are celebrated in Ranthambhore and Sawai Madhopur. The ones that are celebrated with a lot of fanfare are Ganesh Chaturthi, Saraswati Pooja, Diwali and Holi. You could also experience the Kaila Devi Fair, which is held every year in the month of April in the Kaila Devi Temple near Ranthambhore. Other popular festivals that are given a lot of importance in the region are the festivals of Gangaur and Teej. For a more culturally enriching experience you could head towards Jaipur and Ajmer.

The Ranthambhore National Park is the biggest natural attraction in Ranthambhore as well as SawaiMadhopur. The core area of the National park is a dense jungle, which is explored with the help of canters and gypsies. If you are lucky you could even catch sight of the elusive tiger in the area. The jungle is also home diverse and rich flora. The National Park is divided into several other areas or regions. The Akaula Region is also famous for tigers. Then there is Lakarda and Anantpura, where you may catch sights of Indian sloth bear, monkeys, porcupines and striped hyenas. Kachida Valley marks the outskirts of the National Park and is populated by bears and panthers.  There are several lakes like Malik Talao, Padam Lake, RajbaghTalaoand Surval Lake in the region, which makes the place more picturesque and beautiful. 

Since Ranthambhore is a place that could be covered in a short span of time, you may want to explore the other places in the vicinity of Ranthambhore and SawaiMadhopur. If you would like to explore more wildlife then you can go to Bharatpur, which is 202 kilometres away and see the Ghana National Park. You could also travel up to Ajmer (265 kilometres) and Jaipur (145 kilometres) and experience the rice cultural and historical heritage of the state of Rajasthan. Agra, home of the famous TajMahal is also about 239 kilometres from Ranthambhore and could be visited.

There are no major parks and gardens in Ranthambhore. You may want to take strolls in the gardens and grounds in your hotel or resort. You may even explore he local parks and gardens with the help of your guide or ask the locals for guidance about the same. 

Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History is located 9 kilometres away from SawaiMadhopur in the village of Ram Singh Pura. The museum was established in 2007 and is one of the largest natural history museums in the western region. The museum has displays about the geology, flora and fauna of the Western India. You could also visit Shilpgram, which is an ethnographic museum in the Rural Arts and Crafts Complex in Sawai Madhopur. The museum has exhibits that depict the art & crafts, lifestyle and culture of the rural people in the region. It also aims at increasing the awareness of people about the rural life and handicrafts made by the artisens.

A very extraordinary and interesting temple, it is situated in Sawai Madhopur. The temple is for followers of Kal Bhairav and Gaura Bhairav.  Cult followers of Tantra, use the temple for performing tantric rituals. The temple is said to have supernatural powers of granting wishes of the devotees.

This temple is situated in the premises of the Ranthambhore Fort. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesh. The Chauhan ruler Hammir Dev Chauhan, who was a devout follower of Lord Ganesha, built the temple in 1300s. The temple is revered by the locals and sees a lot of pilgrims every year.

Children will like to try zorbing at the Wild Dragon Adventure Park and visit the other attractions there like Horror House. You could take Children to Jaipur as well where there are lots for children to do and enjoy.

The ruins are situated between the Padam Lake and the Raj Bagh Talao. They are remnants of a royal outhouse and have been appreciated for its classy and artistic architecture.

This old fort is an icon in Ranthambhore. The fort is situated inside the National Park about 5 kilometres away from the entrance. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was built in the year 944 AD. This majestic fort is situated on a small hillock, which is about 700 feet high. The Fort was used as an abode for the erstwhile Royal family during their hunting expeditions to the area. There are several interesting places like the Ganesh Temple, King’s court, Royal cenotaphs and execution room inside the fort.
