Set off in an SUV for the prime activity - a thrilling ride of dune bashing under professionally trained and licensed guide and driver. Plummet to the ditches and soar high on the summit of the dunes. Later, you can soak in the Arabian culture at the traditional Arabian Bedouin camp wherein one can enjoy a camel ride on the dunes, dress up as a local and take pictures with falcon sitting on your shoulder or hand. Girls and women can adorn their palms with beautiful henna designs. Capture the glimpse of the culture with a traditional magic show, tanoura dance and belly dancing. Savour the local coffee and dates. Smoke flavored sheesha and entice your taste buds with mouth-watering Arabic BBQ gourmet lavish buffet of vegetarian and non-vegetarian kebabs, salads, shawarmas, desserts etc.

If you are on a holidaying in a city that is close to the desert, you should spend a day in the desert. There are so many activities that you can partake in the desert. One of the best things to do in Dubai is to do Dune Bashing. A day spent dune bashing should be on things to do list. Rent a 4X4 and go a thrilling ride of your lifetime. The highs and lows of the dunes will keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you think you cannot handle the bumpy ride, you should plan for a camel safari or even sand boarding. You can also plan an overnight camping trip in the desert and combine it with dune bashing or a safari.

About Louvre Abu Dhabi

The Louvre is built on Saadiyat island which is the size of a third of Paris and also houses the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum with the aim to build a complex of art galleries and museums to transform the art scene in the Middle East and propel it on the cultural map.

The architecture of the museum gives the illusion of a weightless floating dome in the sea. Designed by Jean Nouvel, a Pritzker Architecture Prize winner, the museum is inspired by the local traditions and city. The dome of 180 meters in diameters is a complex, geometric tapestry of 7,850 stars, repeated at various sizes and angles in eight superimposed layers covering two-thirds of the museum. As the sun passes above, its rays filter through the gaps in the dome to create an inspiring effect within the museum, known as the ‘rain of light'. This ode to nature and the elements takes its inspiration from the fronds of palm trees of Abu Dhabi. A water channel runs through the museum, that encourages strolling along the waterside. It consists of a cluster of 55 buildings inspired by the low-lying homes of which 23 are devoted to the galleries overlooking both the sea and the Abu Dhabi skyline.

Louvre Abu Dhabi’s museum galleries invite the visitors to see humanity in a new light in twelve inspiring chapters. The works on show comprise of ancient and contemporary artwork from different countries. These exceptional works include a gold bracelet with lion figures made in Iran nearly 3,000 years ago, a superb Virgin and Child by Bellini, an Italian gold and garnet fibula (brooch) from the 5th century BC, paintings by Jordaens, Caillebotte, Manet, Gauguin, and Magritte, a paper collage by Picasso never seen in the public domain, and nine canvasses by the recently deceased American painter Cy Twombly. The collection not only includes pieces from the Middle East and the West but also works such as a Soninke/Djennenke figure from Mali, a dancing Shiva from India, and an octagonal box from China, all bringing influence from other geographical regions. The collection is multidisciplinary and spans every medium: in addition to painting, sculpture, tapestry, goldwork, paper collage, etc., the Louvre Abu Dhabi will also showcase a photography collection and works from the decorative arts, such as a decanter by Christopher Dresser (Glasgow, 1834–Mulhouse, 1904). The pieces come on loan from some of the most world-renowned French museums.

How to get to City Walk

Taxi: You can book any private or public taxi and head directly to City Walk

About The Green Planet

From here, ascent to the roof of the treetop in a lift and reach the canopy. At an astounding height of approximately 30-45 metres above the ground, the canopy forms the roof of the rainforest, providing a panoramic view from the treetop of the ecosystem and absorbing the majority of the sunlight. Here one can encounter a multitude of birds such as parrots and macaws roaming freely along with an intriguing exhibit of bees, colourful butterflies and leaf-cutter ants behind a perspex wall.

The 25m tall majestic tree is wrapped with vines and dripping figs which in the future will encompass and completely cover the tree creating a verdant environment for tropical species to thrive and sustain while enhancing the habitat in the world’s first largest fabricated tree.

The visitor then descends on the floor below via a staircase and land on the midstory floor. Kids can take the fun wooden bridges and rope walkways for the same. One can spot the vibrant South American toucans, parakeets, and shy nocturnal porcupines. Here the leaves are big to absorb the trickling sunlight from the canopy above.

Further down, past a huge cascading waterfall is the forest floor. Dark, quiet and humid this floor exhibits the diverse reptiles, insects, and amphibians safely behind glass enclosures. An exceptional floor for an up-close view of the sloths, sugar gliders, frogs, tarantulas, spiders, lizards, vipers, green boa, iguana, panther chameleon, tokay gecko and a host of other species.

There is a team of biologist and trained staff to take care of the creatures and help the guests with the queries and introduce the different species. In the words of Eric Hupperts (a Californian wildlife expert): “This is a living classroom an experience where anyone can learn about tropical wildlife… This tree represents how you would see a real tree in its natural environment, with vines and dripping figs… Within 10 years they will take hold and completely cover the artificial tree. It will be constantly changing.”

An interactive display and safe enclosures ensure an educational yet recreational experience for kids and families. A living museum, the Green Planet is an extraordinary place to experience a rainforest with tropical life and understand it’s importance on earth.
