Nara

Nara was established as the first permanent capital in Japan in 710. But with the growing threat of the influential Buddhist monasteries in the area, the capital was shifted to Nagaoka in 784. The city is located close to Tokyo and Osaka and due to its rich political past remains a historical treasure and is also home to some of the oldest and largest Japanese temples.
