Places to visit in Genting

Being an entertainment capital also means the Genting Highlands plays home to many cultural events from time to time. From live performances to traditional costume shows and more, many of these events are organized by and at the hotels in the area. All of this is done with a touch of modernism, making the cultural scene at Genting Highlands easy to blend into and extremely vibrant.

The Valley Garden, located at the foot of Theme Park Hotel, is a landscaped park sporting a fountain, gazebos and lots of lush greenery. The Valley Garden sees a lot of visitors, especially families, for its beautiful location and cool climate.

This is a must-visit place especially if you touring Malaysia with your kids. Your kids will have wonderful time watching a variety of unique insects from all around the world. They can also learn how honey is cultivated in the farm. A huge collection of bugs in the Insect World is sure to fascinate you.  And if you have a thing for butterflies, visiting Butterfly wonderland will be a delightful experience. Butterflies fluttering around in a beautiful landscape garden are something not to miss out on.

Mushroom farm is another established tourist attraction hidden behind Genting Resort on the peak. Along with a variety of mushrooms in the warehouses, the farm has a food court inside the building.

The Taman Negeri Selangor or Selangor state park is another place worth visiting. Here, tourists can step closer to nature and breathe in the clean and pure mountain air. It is a collection of forest reserves with three main entry points along the main road. There is a river with shallow water, which makes it a perfect picnic spot.

The Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, a relocation centre for elephants at Lanchang, is another must-visit. Established in 1989, the Sanctuary is managed by Malaysian department of Wildlife and National Parks. It was originally built to give shelter to orphaned elephants, and later it became a renowned tourist attraction.

Catch a breathtaking view of the magnificent mountains and rainforests of the city by taking a ride on Genting Skyway. It’s a 3.38 kilometres long ride, stretching from Gohtong Jaya to Genting Highlands. A smooth ride amidst clouds will surely be an enchanting experience.

Sungai Sendat, a waterfall at the Ulu Yam Baru, is a great place to camp and has facilities including public restrooms, gazebos and more. You will surely have an amazing time at Sendat Falls, which is located in a very shady forest. It’s a perfect spot to visit for a picnic on a hot day in summer.

Apart from this, the Visitors’ Galleria is also a major draw. Here, visitors can get all the information they need in regards to the Genting Highlands without much trouble. The Visitors’ Galleria is located on the ground-floor of the Maxims Genting Hotel and gives tourists a peek at the history of Genting Highlands. All of this is done with the help of exhibits that include clippings, plaques, awards, posters and more. The story of Lim Goh Tong's founding of Genting is also highlighted here while a model of the peak gives visitors a bird’s-eyeview of the area.

While on a visit to Genting Highlands, make sure you stop by the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum. This fantastic location sports a bunch of exhibits for kids and families that will shock and amaze visitors. All that’s wild and whacky and completely out-of-the-box is up on display here, making a visit to this museum a “to-do”! The Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum swings open its doors at 10AM every day, and shuts at 10PM.

Outdoor Theme Park is a perfect place to visit with your family and kids. The adrenaline pumping rides like Space Shot and the Antique Car are sure to give you memorable moments.

One of the most popular amongst these is the First World Plaza’s Indoor Theme Park. Sporting an attractive multi-coloured facade, the First World Plaza is just as colorful on the inside too, offering a bunch of fun rides and more for children of all ages. kids can indulge in hours of fun at the Vision City Games Park, a massive gaming arcade, or hop into the Genting Cyberworld for lots of virtual reality gaming. Younger kids can be taken to the TopsyTurvy, a playground specially designed for them. Also, don’t forget to visit the Snow World, complete with a toboggan slide, benches and log cabin, as well as the 4D Motion Master theatrical ride!

Dedicated to the Chinese philosopher Chin Swee, Chin Swee Temple is one of the most prominent structures and popular tourist attraction in Genting Highlands. Since it is located at a height of 4,600, it offers panoramic views of the nearby area. The temple has nine storeys; and its prominent attractions include 50-feet high Buddha statue, Dragon Mineral Water Stream and the Sky Terrace.

Cradle Rock is one the most popular tourist attractions in Genting Highlands. Perched at the height of 5,500 feet, there is a flat gigantic rock, which has balanced itself on other rocks. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of Kuala Lumpur and other popular places such as Batu Caves.

The most important memorial here is the Lim Goh Tong Memorial Hall, built in commemoration of the founder of Genting Highlands. Located next to Lim Goh Tong’s final resting place, the memorial hall is decked with a private garden, trees and flowers. A wooden effigy of the founder can also be found at this spot. While the park is closed to public, the hall can be accessed daily from 8AM to 10PM. To add to the memorial hall’s serenity, a bubbling fountain adorns the area. Small food and snack stalls can also be found here, offering quick bites to tourists visiting the area.

There is no dearth of gardens, parks and natural attractions here in Genting. The Mushroom Farm, tucked away behind the Genting Resort on the peak is very popular, thanks to its turtle pond, fountain and colorful statues. Here, visitors can spot different varieties of mushrooms as well as fungi, while small shops sell herbs, tea, souvenirs, handicrafts and more. Happy Bee Farm and Insect World is another popular park to visit, offering visitors a peek at honey-production processes and honey sampling. Here, visitors can also adopt live beetles that they can carry home as pets!
