Place's to visit in Namibia

Located near the coastline in north-western part of the Namib Desert, the Brandberg Mountain is a place of great spiritual significance for the San or Bushmen tribe – the oldest inhabitants of the country. The White Lady rock painting,located in the Tsisab Ravine is the main tourist attraction here and along with this, there are more than 45000 rock paintings andover 1000 rock shelters as well.

More than 90% of the Namibian population is Christian and apart from that Islam, Buddhism, Judaism and Bahai’s Faith is also practiced here. Christuskirche or the Christ Church in Windhoek city is one of the most well-known religious landmarks in the country. This local sandstone and imported Italian marble made church in Gothic architectural style has a 42m high tower topped by a Gothic spire and is known to symbolize the idea of peace. St. Barbara Church at Tsumeb is another important tourist destination here.

In the museums, galleries and craft centres of Namibia you will stand face to face with the supremely rich natural wealth and historical and cultural heritage of the country. The National Museum of Namibia in Windhoek actually has two museums – AlteFesteMuuseum and Owela Museum and has a tremendous collection of display objects depicting the land’s rich natural history and also the traditional and cultural practices of its people.

Windhoek – the capital of Namibia has a number of attractively designed, manicured and well maintained parks and gardens. The National Botanical Garden presents an excellent representation of diverse Namibian flora. Mountain aloe, quiver trees and poisonous candelabra euphorbia are some of the major attractions in this garden.

When it comes to Namibia – the number of natural attractions are truly many. Etosha National Park with its amazing wildlife is certainly the most popular natural attraction here. The sand dunes at Sossusvlei are the largest in the world while the Fish River Canyon in southern Namibia is only second to the Grand Canyon Arizona.

Though, Namibia is among the topmost safari destinations in Africa yet it also has many cultural attractions and Twyfelfonteinn, Duwisib Castle and Sam Nujoma Stadium are the most popular alongside some other cultural destinations. Namibian music is actually a combination of different folk styles and Malgaisa, a form of Damara traditionally music and Shambo – the traditional dance music form of Oshiwambo-speaking people are pretty popular here.

In local Nama language Ai-Ais means burning water. This sulphurous thermal hot water spring is located towards the southern end of Fish River Canyon in southern Namibia and is a part of the RichtersveldTransfrontier Park. The hot spring originating deep under the riverbed has formed an oasis in this arid area.
