Places to visit in Puerto Rico

This ancient fort is situated in the capital city and was constituted in the year 1540. It was built to protect the citizens from enemy attacks through the top of the promontory with a section towards the northwestern corner of the city. In 1983 this fort was declared as the world heritage site.

It was built in the year 1521 by the famous explorer and later the governor of Puerto Rico Juan Ponce de Leon. It was the ancestral home of the Leon family for more than 250 years. This old house or villa is known as the oldest complexes which have continually been occupied from the time it was built. At first it was occupied by the family, then by the Spanish and later by the U.S. military commanders. Today it is preserved as a museum and an historic monument. The Alhambra styled courtyard is open for all and houses different fountains, statues, coat of arms and rooms adorned with antiques and artifacts which are from the 16th century.

It is the oldest church in the entire American continent and was built in the year 1606. It is the biggest landmark of the city of San German which is one of the oldest cities in Puerto Rico. There are mainly three masses which are held in the church, but the tourists are allowed to visit all through the year to enjoy the spectacular artifacts and ancient wall decors and hangings with a collection of different sacred objects.

This museum showcases the life of Major Rincon de Gautier who was a former major in the Puerto Rico army. It is situated in the capital city of San Juan.

Coin Museum in Nashik houses a unique collection of Indian currency, photographs, drawings and documents highlighting the journey of Indian currency over the centuries. It was established in 1980 and is surrounded by the scenic Ajneri Hills. The museum is under supervision of Indian Institute of Research in Numismatic Studies, which also promotes various workshops for coin collection. One the other hand, KJ Maheshwari Art Gallery exhibits a collection of international award winning photographs taken by Mr. Maheshwari himself.

Long back in the history of Puerto Rico slavery was a strong part of life and slaves were brought from Africa. This museum depicts the life and period of the ethnic cultural life of the African slaves who resided in the region. The strong cultural influence can be seen here.

This museum exhibits the different artifacts which are the masterpieces of the Puerto Rican culture and ethnicity. It is opened for all on the weekdays.
