These two places do not contain any monuments since they are quite close to the arctic in the extreme north. Also there are no man made monuments on these two islands. This is one of the most beautiful places on Earth in the truest sense they are inhabited but you get untouched nature when you visit these places. Svalbard Museum

Relaxation can be taken careof at the capital of Longyearbyen or Barentsburg. You can just go for strolls around the town or just sit at your hotel and marvel the setting sun. The exquisite food helps too since they are available at the major places in the archipelagos’. You can go for a little bit of sightseeing too and since these island groups are not very populated you will find great places to visit once you set your foot out. Or you can even attend some of the small cultural shows which take placein the town quite frequently.

Shopping

You won’t find many shopping destinations on Svalbard and Jan Mayenislands. But you will find some wonderful street shops in the capital of Longyearbyen. You can see how the town people sell things made from natural material they get around them. You can get a few souvenir shops here too. There is one big departmental store where you can get all your necessary belongings and daily needs. You won’t find any other big shops in any of the other islands. So it is suggested that you shop in Longyearbyen while you are there.

Food

You get a lot of small shops in the populated areas of the archipelagos which offer good quality food which tastes great. They are cheap and worth your while. Mostly the food revolves around fish and meat, since vegetation is a bit hard to come by in the extreme cold areas. But you will find an ample amount of dishes present. You can even find a few bigger restaurants but only in Longyearbyen. They offer a variety of cuisines but are much filled during the tourism months and getting a reservation during this time is very difficult.
