Exploring the Altstadt on foot is the best way to see the old city. Walking around is absolutely a must to soak in the atmosphere, especially if you’re strolling along the banks of the Lake Zurich or even the Limmat riverfront. Do remember that there will be a certain amount of walking you will have to do, even if you use modes of transport such as buses or trams or even trains.

By Boat
Boat services on Lake Zurich and the Limmat River are excellent ways to get around the water bodies. There are lake cruises which run only between April and October and some are usually circular tours that take one and a half hours to complete. Some of the cruises can even take you all the way up to Tiefenbrunnen. There are also themed ships on the lake which can be quite the fun experience. You can also go on a riverboat around the Limmat River for a slightly different experience.

By Taxi
When public transport is so excellent, not many people use taxis in Zurich. They are also quite expensive and hence considered unnecessary. Taxis can be availed outside the Hauptbahnhof train station or you can call for them by dialling the taxi services.
