This school was established by the British as a part of their garrison after the land was given to them by the rulers of the region in 1943. The old buildings of the school are preserved with a lot of care and affection by the mission and are worth taking a look at.

The Ruins of Hira Mahal Palace,the beautiful and more than 200 years old historic palace, was situated in Kumarsain, very close to Thanedar and was a splendid example of architecture. The sprawling palace was however gutted in a fire in 2007, leaving behind a few remnants of its existence.

Barobagh Hill is the highest point in Thanedar. The hillock is the location of the famous Stokes’ House and the Param Jyoti Temple. It has some of the most awesome views too. 

Saroga Forest is another place close by which you can visit. It is about 10 km from Thanedar. You may go for a nature walk in the forest and look at the natural flora and fauna or pick up rhododendron flowers on your way.

Thanedar is famous for its fruit orchards and resplendent natural beauty. There are no cultural events which take place in Thanedar, but every year in the second week of November the neighbouring village of Rampur holds a huge event called the Lavi Fair. The 3-day fair is very popular in this area because traders from all over the region gather here to sell their wares. Everything from handicrafts to dried fruits, clothes and livestock are sold in the Fair. The Fair is one of the largest of its kind in Northern India and a major crowd magnet. It is a must visit if you happen to be around during the second week of November. Another Fair takes place every year in the month of June, at the Temple of Nag Devtanear the Tani Jubbar Lake. It’s a major attraction for the people in Thanedar and a lot of handicrafts are sold in the fair.

 

The Saint Mary’s Church and the Param Jyoti Temple are the most important landmarks in Thanedar. Hatu Peak is another natural landmark. Besides these, the most prominent landmark in the village is the Banjara Camps & Retreats, which is popular for providing lodging, treks, hikes and camping trips in the region. 

Nature walks, strolls in the forests, orchards and near the lake are some of the activities you can undertake in Thanedar.
